British India Half Rupee 1943 silver coin from the Lahore Mint issued during the reign of King George VI. The obverse features the crowned portrait of King George VI facing left with the inscription GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR, designed by Percy Metcalfe. The reverse displays HALF RUPEE INDIA 1943 within an elaborate floral wreath featuring roses, thistle, shamrock and lotus motifs, along with the Persian inscription Hasht Aanay, meaning eight annas. The L mint mark below the floral design identifies this coin as a Lahore Mint issue. This type was struck in 50% silver and has a security edge. The 1943 Lahore issue had a reported mintage of approximately 9,000,000 pieces, making it a distinct variety of the George VI half rupee series.
