About 1/12 Anna 1942 of British India of King George VI Bronze Coin
This is a 1/12 Anna 1942 coin from British India. It’s a bronze coin with a picture of King George VI on one side. He’s wearing a crown and looking to the left. On the other side, there’s the value of the coin and the year, all inside a circle of tiny beads. There’s also a wreath pattern around it. The coin weighs 1.62 grams and is about 17.5 mm wide. If you like old coins, especially from 1942, this one’s cool.
From 1835 to 1947, when British uniform coins were used, the 1/12 Anna was the smallest coin that was made. The 1/12 anna was the smallest coin the British ever made. It was 1/3 of a paisa, which is 1/192 of a rupee. In 1835, these coins were made for the East India Company for the first time. From 1862 on, these coins had Queen Victoria (later Empress) on them.
After her, Edward VII, George V, and George VI followed. As small coins, these were used more often (and roughly) than the more valuable silver coins. That’s why there aren’t many good examples left.
