North Borneo 1889 One Cent British North Borneo Company Coin

A 1889 British North Borneo 1 Cent coin issued by the British North Borneo Company. The obverse features two traditional North Borneo warriors holding a shield bearing the coat of arms, with the Latin motto PERGO ET PERAGO and the date 1889. The reverse displays ONE CENT surrounded by laurel branches, with Chinese and Malay inscriptions and BRITISH NORTH BORNEO Co. The coin was struck in bronze and carries the H mintmark for Heaton and Sons in Birmingham. This is an interesting example of British colonial coinage associated with North Borneo.
