France 2 Euro 2014 D Day Commemorative Coin

France 2 Euro 2014 commemorative coin issued to mark the 70th anniversary of the Normandy Landings D Day of 6 June 1944. The commemorative side features the inscription D DAY artistically formed as a landing craft and tank gun, with 1944 2014 above it and 70e ANNIVERSAIRE DU DEBARQUEMENT below. The design also depicts the footprints of Allied soldiers disappearing into the sand beneath a wave. A line from Paul Verlaine’s poem is incorporated into the design. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union. The common reverse shows the denomination 2 EURO and a map of Europe. The coin has a bimetallic construction and was issued by France in 2014. The circulating mintage was 3,000,000 pieces, with additional BU and Proof issues.
