British India Half Rupee 1944 silver coin issued during the reign of King George VI and struck at the Bombay Mint. The obverse features the crowned portrait of King George VI facing left with the inscription GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR, designed by engraver Percy Metcalfe. The reverse displays HALF RUPEE INDIA 1944 within an ornate floral wreath featuring roses, thistle, shamrock and lotus flowers, along with the Persian inscription Hasht Aanay, meaning eight annas. The dot mint mark below the date identifies the Bombay Mint issue. This coin was struck in 50% silver and features a distinctive security edge. The 1944 Bombay Mint issue had a reported mintage of approximately 46,200,000 pieces.
