Taiwan 50 New Dollars 1996 Coin

Taiwan 50 New Dollars 1996 bimetallic circulation coin, issued by the Republic of China. The obverse features the Presidential Office Building in Taipei, with Chinese inscription and the date 1996, corresponding to Republic of China Year 85. The reverse features an orchid along with the denomination 50, Chinese characters and Braille markings. This distinctive Taiwanese coin is part of the modern New Dollar circulation series and uses a bimetallic construction with an aluminium bronze centre and copper nickel outer ring. The coin weighs approximately 10 grams and measures 28 mm in diameter, with a thickness of approximately 2.1 mm. It has a milled finish and a distinctive edge consisting of alternating smooth and reeded sections. The 1996 issue was later demonetized on 30 June 2004.
