1939 Half Rupee (Calcutta Mint) – Description & Specifications
Obverse : Features the crowned bust of King George VI facing left, with “GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR” around the rim.
Reverse : Shows the denomination “HALF RUPEE INDIA 1939” within a decorative floral wreath, with Persian inscriptions below.
- Mint: Calcutta (no mint mark below date).
- Metal Content: .917 silver (91.7% silver).
- Weight: 5.83 grams.
- Diameter: ~23.5–24 mm.
Historical Note : 1939 was the last year the half rupee was issued in full .917 silver, making it highly collectible and more valuable compared to later issues, which had reduced silver content.
