500 Francs of France of 1998 Marie Curie and Pierre Curie Note

Marie curie : Together with her husband, she was awarded half of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903, for their study into the spontaneous radiation discovered by Becquerel, who was awarded the other half of the Prize. In 1911 she received a second Nobel Prize, this time in Chemistry, in recognition of her work in radioactivity.

Pierre Curie : born 15 May 1859, Paris, France – died 19 April 1906, Paris, French physical chemist, cowinner with his wife Marie Curie of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903. He and Marie discovered radium and polonium in their investigation of radioactivity
