Republic of China 1 Yuan of 1934 Silver Coin

       Description

• Identity: Year 23 of the Republic of China (1934).

• Obverse: A left-facing profile of Sun Yat-sen, the first president of the Republic. The top inscription reads 中華民國二十三年 (“Republic of China Year 23”).

• Reverse: Features a two-masted Chinese junk boat sailing on waves. The characters 壹圓 (One Yuan) appear on either side.

• Composition: Minted in .900 fine silver (26.73g total weight), containing approximately 0.7734 oz of pure silver.

• History: This was the last year of mass-produced silver dollars before China moved to a paper-based “fabi” currency system. Interestingly, the U.S. Mint restruck 30 million of these specific Year 23 coins in 1949 to support the ROC government during the civil war.
