Republic of China 1 Yuan silver dollar, “Memento Birth of Republic of China,” struck around 1912 or 1927. Commemorates the founding of the Republic after the 1911 Revolution.

Obverse

Bust of Sun Yat-sen facing left, surrounded by peach blossoms and Chinese inscription “中華民國開國紀念幣” (Republic of China Founding Commemorative Coin).

Reverse

Wreath of rice and beans around “壹圓” (1 Yuan), with English “MEMENTO BIRTH OF REPUBLIC OF CHINA” above and “CHINA” below.

Silver (.890-.900 fineness), 26.7 grams, 39 mm diameter, reeded edge. Scarce early Republican issue, popular among collectors for its historical significance and elegant design by engraver He Ziliang.
