Description
This is a 10 Rupees Indian banknote issued by the Reserve Bank of India in 1958, bearing the signature of Governor H V R Iyengar. Distinguished by its vibrant purple color and classic post-independence design, it is a widely collected example from mid-century Indian paper money.
Obverse Features
- “RESERVE BANK OF INDIA” at the top and classic promise text: “I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of TEN RUPEES.”
- Denomination value printed in both English and Hindi (“दस रुपये”).
- The serial number “A 30 509795” appears twice, left and right.
- Signature: H V R Iyengar, RBI Governor from 1957–1962.
- Iconic Lion Capital of Ashoka pillar clearly depicted at right.
Reverse Features
- Central vignette of a traditional Indian dhow (sailing boat) on the water, representing India’s maritime heritage.
- Multilingual value panel at left, with “Rupees Ten” written in various regional languages.
