This is a German 1 euro bi‑metallic circulation coin dated 2002, issued by the Federal Republic of Germany as part of the first euro coinage series. The coin has a silver‑coloured inner core and a gold‑coloured outer ring, weighs 7.5 g and measures 23.25 mm in diameter, with a finely milled edge.
The national side shows a stylised federal eagle, Germany’s traditional emblem of sovereignty and unity, standing with outstretched wings inside a circular inner field. Around the outer ring are twelve five‑pointed stars symbolising the European Union, with the year “2002” and a small mint letter below the eagle identifying the German mint (A, D, F, G or J). This design was created by Heinz Hoyer and Sneschana Russewa‑Hoyer and is used on both the 1 and 2 euro German coins.
The common reverse is the standard 1 euro type by Luc Luycx, with a large numeral “1”, the word “EURO”, and a map showing the then‑15 EU member states, intersected by six fine lines ending in stars. In circulated condition this coin is very common and usually trades at or near face value, with only high‑grade or error pieces attracting a collector premium.
