British India Half Rupee 1944 – Lahore Mint

This half rupee coin was minted in 1944 at the Lahore Mint during the reign of King George VI. The obverse displays the crowned left-facing portrait of George VI, encircled by the legend “GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR” and a toothed security edge. The reverse shows “HALF RUPEE INDIA 1944” within a floral wreath of indigenous Indian motifs, with Persian script and the Lahore Mint mark—a raised “L”—visible below the date.

Struck in .500 (50%) silver, the coin weighs about 5.87 grams and has a diameter of 24–24.4 mm. The rarity of the Lahore Mint and the classical Indo-British design make this coin highly desirable for collectors of pre-independence Indian silver currency
